Single Ads

Creating a New Ad
To create a new ad, follow the steps below:
  1. On the tool bar (located at the top of the page) click New Ad.
  2. A form is created in a new tab. Fill the form, following the hints that appear to the right
  3. You can see the ad preview just below the ad hint. Make corrections where necessary
  4. When you're done, do either of the following
    • click Activate to save and immediately activate the ad, or
    • click Save to save the ad without activating it. You can activate the ad any time later.
Duplicating an Ad
You may sometimes need to duplicate an ad in order to use it with a different search term. To achieve this, do the following:
  1. Open the ad (if its not yet open)
  2. On the tool bar (located at the top of the page) click Duplicate
  3. A duplicate of the ad is created and automatically opened in a new tab
  4. Change the value of the "Search Term" and any other changes that you desire
  5. You can now save the ad.
Editing an Ad
When you open an existing ad, its in read-only mode by default. This prevents accidental edits. To edit an existing ad, do the following:
  1. Open the ad (if its not yet open)
  2. On the tool bar (located at the top of the page) click Edit
  3. Make the desired changes.
  4. Save the ad.
Note: If the Edit button is not available on the tool bar, then the ad is already in edit mode. In that case you can skip step 2.
Saving an Ad
With the ad open, and depending on its current status (i.e. active or inactive), you can click
  • Activate to save and activate the ad, or
  • Inactivate to save and inactivate the ad, or
  • Save to save and preserve the ad's current status.
Activating an Ad
To activate an ad:
  1. Open the ad (if its not yet open)
  2. On the tool bar (located at the top of the page) click Activate
Note: If the Activate button is not available on the tool bar, then the ad is currently active. In that case, if changes have been made to the ad, simply click Save.
Inactivating an Ad
To inactivate an ad:
  1. Open the ad (if its not yet open)
  2. On the tool bar (located at the top of the page) click Inactivate
Note: If the Inactivate button is not available on the tool bar, then the ad is currently inactive. In that case, if changes have been made to the ad, simply click Save.
Deleting an Ad
To delete an ad:
  1. Open the ad (if its not yet open)
  2. On the tool bar (located at the top of the page) click Delete
  3. On the dialog that pops up click Yes to confirm the delete.
Note: If its a new ad, the Delete button will not be available on the tool bar. In that case, simply close the ad.

Ad Folders

Creating a New Folder
To create a new folder, simply create an ad or edit an existing ad, typing the name of the folder in the field labelled "Save in ..." before saving it.

Note: You cannot create an empty folder. Only system folders "All:", "Active:" and "Inactive:" can be empty.

Viewing the Ads in a Folder
To view the ads in a folder, simply select the folder in the drop-down list on the Ads menu.
Activating the Ads in a Folder
To activate the ads in a folder:
  1. Open the folder (if its not yet open)
  2. Tick the boxes next to each ad that you wish to activate
  3. On the tool bar (located at the top of the page) click Activate
Inactivating the Ads in a Folder
To inactivate the ads in a folder:
  1. Open the folder (if its not yet open)
  2. Tick the boxes next to each ad that you wish to inactivate
  3. On the tool bar (located at the top of the page) click Inactivate
Deleting Ads from a Folder
To delete ads from a folder:
  1. Open the folder (if its not yet open)
  2. Tick the boxes next to each ad that you wish to delete
  3. On the tool bar (located at the top of the page) click Delete
  4. On the dialog that pops up click Yes to confirm the delete.
Deleting an Entire Folder
To delete an entire folder:
  1. Open the folder (if its not yet open)
  2. Tick the box at the top left corner of the table header
  3. On the tool bar (located at the top of the page) click Delete
  4. On the dialog that pops up click Yes to confirm the delete.

Profile

Updating your Profile
To update your profile, do the following:
  1. On the Profile menu (located on the left side of the page), click Update Profile
  2. Fill the pop-up profile form as necessary
  3. Tick each item on the profile that you wish to make public
  4. View the Profile Preview to make sure only the desired fields are ticked and that each value is correct
  5. To move to the next page, click Next
  6. When you are done click Finish
Note: If you changed your profile picture in the process of updating your profile, the picture change is immediately saved whether or not you clicked Finish.
Sharing your Public Profile
Your profile is not shared by default. To share it, while updating your profile, simply tick the info that you wish to share.
Previewing your Public Profile
You can see your public profile by clicking Public Preview on the Profile menu (located on the left side of the page). That is what your profile will look like to the public.
Creating a Link
Cole8 makes it easy to create a permanent link to your profile, which you can share publicly. This will be of the form www.cole8.com/yourNameWithoutSpaces.

Note: Once your profile link is created, it can no longer be changed. Hence it is recommended that you use your first name and surname (separated by allowed punctuation). For example a person named Hope Yusuf could use any of the following (non-exhaustive) options

  • www.cole8.com/hope.yusuf
  • www.cole8.com/hope-yusuf
  • www.cole8.com/hope+yusuf
  • www.cole8.com/hope_yusuf
  • www.cole8.com/hope'yusuf
  • www.cole8.com/hopeyusuf

You could also reverse the first name and surname e.g. www.cole8.com/yusuf.hope etc.

Also, note that profile links are not case-sensitive. www.cole8.com/yusuf+hope is the same as www.cole8.com/Yusuf+Hope

To create a permanent link to your profile:
  1. On the Profile menu (located on the left side of the page), click Create a Link
  2. Type the link value into the box on the dialog that pops up
  3. Click Create Link
  4. Read carefully the message that pops up. If you are satisfied, click Yes to proceed with the link creation.
Changing your Picture
To change your profile picture, do the following:
  1. On the Profile menu (located on the left side of the page) click Change Picture
  2. Click the button on the panel that pops up.
  3. Choose the desired (jpg or jpeg, png, gif or bmp) picture from your local drive
  4. The picture is automatically changed and you will be notified when the change is complete
Note: When you change your profile picture, the old one is deleted completely. You cannot have more than one picture in your account at any time.
Deleting your Picture
To delete your profile picture, do the following:
  1. On the Profile menu (located on the left side of the page) click Delete Picture
  2. On the dialog that pops up, click Yes to confirm the delete
  3. Click OK to dismiss the notification that pops up.
Note: You cannot delete the dummy that replaces the deleted picture. You can only change it.

Invites

Sending an Invite
To invite a friend to try out Cole8 PRIMER, do the following:
  1. On the Invites menu (located on the left side of the page) click Send Invite...
  2. On the panel that is revealed, type your friend's name in the first field
  3. Type your friend's email in the second field then click Invite
Viewing Sent Invite
To view sent invites, on the Invites menu (located on the left side of the page) click Sent:. A list of sent invites will be displayed in a new tab.
Limits on Number of Invites
In all, you may invite up to 100 friends to try out Cole8 PRIMER

Search

Searching Nigeria
To search Nigeria, simply type your search term in the box on the Search menu (located on the left side of the page), then click Search Nigeria. The search results will be opened in a new browser window (or tab).

Opening Best Match
To open the web page from Nigeria that best matches a given term, simply type the term that identifies the page (or website), and then click Best Match. Cole8 will make a best effort to open the page in a new browser window (or tab).

Account

Logging Out
To log out of your account, click Log Out on the Account menu (located on the left side of the page).
Changing your Password
To change your password:
  1. On the Account menu (located on the left of the page), click Settings...
  2. On the revealed panel, click Change Password
  3. Fill the required information in the dialog that pops up, then click Change
Setting/Changing your Security Questions
To change your security questions:
  1. On the Account menu (located on the left of the page), click Settings...
  2. On the revealed panel, click Set/Change Security Questions
  3. Click Yes on the dialog that pops up
  4. Answer each question when prompted
  5. In the dialog that pops up, select (or create) a new set of security questions with their respective answers
  6. Click Save
  7. .
Note: Answers to security questions are not case sensitive. Hence you need not worry about upper- or lower-cased letters.
Changing your Email
Note: It is recommended that you not change your email. You should only do so if you lose access to your current email account.

To proceed with changing your email, do the following:

  1. On the Account menu (located on the left of the page), click Settings...
  2. On the revealed panel, click Change Email
  3. Click Yes on the dialog that pops up
  4. Enter your password when prompted
  5. Answer the security questions when prompted
  6. In the dialog that pops up, enter both your current email and new email, then click Save.
  7. Paste your activation code (that would have been sent to your email)

If the activation succeeds, your email change will be completed and you will be notified immediately.

Note: Answers to security questions are not case sensitive. Hence you need not worry about upper- or lower-cased letters.
Suspending your Account
Note: Suspending your account will make all your ads inactive. Your public profile will also be made private.

To suspend your account, do the following:

  1. On the Account menu (located on the left of the page), click Settings...
  2. On the revealed panel, click Suspend Account
  3. Click Yes on the dialog that pops up
  4. Enter your password to confirm the account suspension.
When the suspension completes, you'll be automatically logged out. You can, however, log in again anytime.
